Jodie / The Headless Man

I loved the Headless Man from Miss Artificial Spring SO MUCH, that I wrote him a special love song! Dedicated to Kelly Kuvo, who I know is a sucker for a love song. – Jodie

TV Sheriff / ORD>LAX!

Davy Force busts out a remix you can shake your groove thang & boogie to! Created from scratch on a plane from ORD>LAX using only iPad and Apps? (Thus it’s pretty stripped back!)

THE MUSIC! Before The Coctails agreed to let me use their music for the soundtrack, I put this cassette together…

Casey Spooner and I walked into a junk shop in Wicker Park and found a collection of old 45’s. We shared the cost in buying them, or we fought over who got to buy them, and then we took them home. This list of songs and the music of these artists was a HUGE influence on the mood and vision for Miss Artificial Spring. After editing the first 3 episodes, I was told by my SAIC Professors to seek out original music for the background track, so I asked The Coctails. They were the obvious choice! They recorded a cover version of Apple Honey by Woody Herman and his Thundering Herd for our Miss Artificial Spring theme song. Here is what the original sounds like!                                                                                                    MAS.Music.OriginalTapeList

Influences! If it wasn’t for the hidden gems at the Chicago Broadcast Museum archives, MAS wouldn’t exist!

Tom Palazzolo is one of the best teachers I ever had at SAIC. He told me and his other film students to ignore the movie theaters and rental stores, and head straight to the Public Library, TV/Radio Museum, and garage sales to seek out obscure and inspiring films and videos. I watched things based only on a title that sounded good, and discovered shows that inspired me to make Miss Artificial Spring. I eventually got memberships to the TV & Radio Museums. I don’t have anything from what I dug up at the Chicago Broadcast Museum in the early 90’s, but I found these relics from the NYC/LA Museums of TV & Radio where I was a member in the late 90’s .

The lil’ foamcore display for our table spot at C.U.F.F.! Independent Video magazine, where are you?

At the first Chicago Underground Film Festival, there was a “Chicago Underground Scene” table to promote stuff and hand out swag. Independent Video magazine was kind enough to publish an interview with me and then give me copies of the issue to sell or giveaway during CUFF. I think I have LOST my copy of the magazine, but I still have the table display ad! CUFF also let me write a crazy rant to inspire? scare? people to produce Cable Access TV as well as independent films, so there’s that too!MAS.Press.CUFFrantMAS.CUFFlabel  MAS.Press.IndiVideoDisplayAd
